TIME TEAM SAY NO
Following months of discussion Channel 4 Time Team programme producers have decided against including Aynho and the tunnels in their next series. Below is the text of an email recently received from Jim Mower, Time Team Production Manager.
I wanted to write to let you know where we are with Aynho. We've read through everything you've kindly sent through. Having now had a meeting with the series editor and the series producer regarding the sites for this series I presented Aynho and we gave the site due attention.
I'm sorry to say that we've decided not to pursue the project this year. Although I admire and support the work of the history group (and encourage you to continue!) I'm afraid that Aynho just doesn't deliver the needs of the programme.
I'm sorry to disappoint you and would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all the work you've put in.

IFORD MANOR VISIT 2009

Barry Moyses
Just before Christmas I was contacted by the above. Barry told me that he was born in London and he and his mother were evacuated to Aynho and lived in the Great Western Arms between July 1944 and July 1946. Barry recalls that the landlord at that time was Charles Harris who owned a field that he leased to the U.S. Army and that he also kept pigs and grew strawberries in a large field. He remembers two sisters named Sheila and Ceenie living nearby and the three of them travelled to school in Aynho by coach each day. Barry remembers the Squire opening his grounds for Market Days and picking potatoes for pocket money. Water was drawn from a hand pump in a nearby field. Another past-time was to stand on the station platform as the American troop trains went slowly through calling out "Got any gum chum?" They never failed to lean through the windows and pass out packets of chewing gum. Barry is seeking further memories to add to his family history.
JULY MEETING
Our next meeting will be a visit to The Quakers Meeting House, Horn Hill Road, Adderbury where Nick Allen will present a history and tour. The meeting will start at 7.30 pm.
Normal meeting charges will apply and be donated to The Quaker Meeting House funds.
