Art at Aynhoe Park - Sophie Ryder

Aynhoe Park is a Grade I listed 17th-century country house rebuilt after the English Civil War on the border of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. The house been remodelled and altered throughout its history, first by Thomas Archer in the early 1700s and then by Sir John Soane a century later. James Perkins bought the house in 2004 and has worked since then to transform Aynhoe back into a family home. The house has a close connection with Sir John Soane, having been extensively remodelled by him. The spirit of the great man lives on with the current owner enjoying a close relationship with the Sir John Soane Museum in London. He also shares Soane’s passion for plaster casts and owns the largest private collection in the world, much of which is on display in the house. James’ passion for collecting, in the tradition of the eighteenth century Grand Tours, led him to the idea to open the house for exhibitions of modern artists and sculptors who particularly fascinate him.

Sophie Ryder is an internationally acclaimer sculptor whose work has exhibited widely in public exhibitions in the UK, Canada, the United States, Eire, Belgium and the Netherlands. In Europe the spectacular 10 foot wire Torsos was exhibited at The Hague in Holland, sited in an underground chamber. A major show of indoor and outdoor work went to the Veranneman Foundation in Belgium. Shows in North America included substantial exhibitions in Montreal and Vancouver.

Maytime in the Square

Anyone wanting to try their hand at a "one off" dancing session at Maytime in the square on 15th May 2pm is invited to join in with the Aynho Apricots Practice Sessions over the next few weeks.

You don't have to be a good dancer - you just need an open mind and a sense of humour.  We had great fun last year and learnt the dance with about 4 practice sessions locally (mainly down the pub!).

If anyone is interested in joining us (we already have about 6 - 8 willing participants so you won't be alone) please contact me by e mail.  I'm just waiting to confirm the first practice session which is probably next Wednesday 28th April in Kings Sutton in the evening.

Our existing participants are mainly men but it doesn't matter which sex you are - if you like bashing a stick and wearing bells then your born to do it.

Come and join us - meet some new friends - it makes great dinner party conversation!

Hope to hear from you - and don't worry it doesn't commit you for ever.
