Call the Northamptonshire Police switchboard on 03000 111 222 or dial 999 in an emergency.
Alternatively you can call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
When you go out always lock doors and close windows (coming up to hot weather in particular) even if you leave just for a few moments!
Be vigilant in your surroundings and if anything suspicious seen call Police on 03000 111 222 or contact neighbourhood watch (Linda) and other co-ordinators.
Most people who come to your door will be genuine callers. But it's best to make sure. Genuine callers will not mind waiting whilst you contact their company for verifrication.
If you live next door to someone elderly or venerable just pop in on them from time to time to make sure everything is ok.
Don't leave anything on display in your vehicle, such as bags purses or anything that may look of value..
Don't leave tools in work vehicles as this is an easy target for criminals .
The fitting of a burglar alarm is a good deterrent to any burglar (and is not just a ringing box) they want to get in and out as quick as possible without any audible warnings that may alert others.
Keep a list of any serial numbers and model numbers of any property and mark with u/v pen your postcode.
When out make use of timers to switch on lights and TV's/radios to give the appearance of someone at home.
Visible alarms, good lighting and carefully directed security lighting together with strong door and window locks can put off burglars.
If anyone wishes to discuss crime prevention please contact any member of the Brackley rural Safer Community Team either by SCTBrackleyRural [at] northants [dot] police [dot] uk (e-mail) or the above number.

28/7/10 Awareness
This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all residents.
There has been an increase in the number of people receiving unsolicited telephone calls from companies offering the installation of security systems.
Initial contact is made by telephone cold calling residents to arrange appointments. Whilst the alarms may be free or available at a nominal cost, the ongoing maintenance costs are high and there is a cancellation fee.
We advise that you do not purchase systems from companies cold calling, either on the telephone or at your door. If you are considering investing in an alarm system, we recommend that obtain quotes from at least 3 security companies who are subject to independent inspection by a recognised body, either NSI (The National Security Inspectorate) or SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board).
Anyone experiencing or have been affected by 'cold call' telephone calls in relation to appointments arranging visits promoting the sale of security alarms should ring We We would ask anyone experiencing or affected by 'cold call' telephone calls from companies arranging visits promoting the sale of security alarms, to ring Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or Northamptonshire Trading Standards on 01604 707900.
We would like to remind you, 'If you're not sure, DON'T open the door'.
If you are concerned about a caller at your door or suspect that distraction burglars or rogue doorstep traders are operating in your community, please call our dedicated Doorstep crime Action Network (DAN) number 0345 23 07 702. 8/7/10 Possible Scam
A resident in South London has reported a possible scam taking place in his locality.
A man claiming to represent 'Neighbourhood Watch Support' telephoned to say that a Neighbourhood Watch brochure was going out to all the local residents. The caller was encouraging local businesses to advertise in this brochure.
The resident agreed to place an advertisement and later received a further phone call from a company calling itself 'Business Community Support Multimedia'. The caller took some details over the phone.
At a later date the resident received a letter with a 'proof' for the advertisement. Apart from the name of the business and the contact phone number, every detail was incorrect. The accompanying letter said that unless any amendments were received within five days (by phone, email or fax) they would assume that the details were correct and place the advert.
The resident tried several times to contact the company by email and phone but to no avail, finding his emails unanswered and his phone calls cut off. Luckily he had not yet paid any money for the advertisement.
We would like to make it clear that there is no such organisation as 'Neighbourhood Watch Support' and the Neighbourhood & Home Watch Network does not produce any such local brochures nor contract Business Community Support Multimedia to do so.
If you have any concerns, questions or issues you would like to raise relating to this, please contact us on enquiries [at] nationalnhw [dot] org or 0116 229 3118 and do not agree to anything over the telephone or on your doorstep.

22/6/10 Community News
A CHANCE TO CHANGE An alternative approach to dealing with youth crime is being employed by Northamptonshire Police through the introduction of Youth Restorative Disposals (YRDs).
YRDs contain a 'restorative justice' element and will assist officers in providing a quick and appropriate response to low-level crime and neighbourhood disorder to young people aged 10 to 17 inclusive.
Where this approach differs to those previously employed is that it directly engages with all parties - victims, offenders and families - to resolve an offence in a manner that is meaningful.
This discretionary power, which is available to police officers, allows for immediate action to be taken for minor first time offences.
The basis for introducing YRDs lies with implementing an approach that prevents young people from being disproportionately criminalised for a first time offence. Additionally, it can help reduce the chances of them re-offending and help them gain an understanding of the implications of their behaviour.
It also increases the public's involvement in resolving an issue that they are directly affected by, thereby helping to improve their confidence in the justice system.
Thank you.

The Charter Mark programme, which is run the county's Children and Young People Partnership, is based on a national model and carries four standards: bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
The Force fulfilled the criteria for a bronze award in a number of areas. For example, officers use risk assessment techniques help to protect young witnesses from going to court, as well as providing support to juvenile offenders.
The Force and Police Authority actively encourage young people to share their views on policing, and the Safer Schools Partnership has been set up to improve links between the police, schools and young people.
Assistant Chief Constable, Martin Jelley, said: "Our focus has been to bring in strategies and polices to meet the needs of young people and improve how we support and relate to them. It's great to be recognised for what we have achieved so far." The CYPP also noted that the Force is already achieving the Silver Charter Mark level in some areas.

16/6/10 Loft insulation callers
People living in Northamptonshire have been warned to beware of bogus telephone callers who claim to be from the Northamptonshire County Council.
The authority has reported receiving complaints from several people who say they have been contacted by cold callers offering loft and wall cavity insulation under the auspices of Northamptonshire County Council.
In some cases, residents who complained said the caller became rude and aggressive during the conversation.
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire County Council said the authority did not offer a loft and wall cavity insulation service.
She stressed these types of calls would not be from council staff and advised residents not to give out personal information or act on offers from those or other similar callers.
Councillor Andre Gonzalez de Savage (Con, East Hunsbury), cabinet member for customers and communities, reiterated her words.
He said: "These calls are not being made by the county council and we do not offer any loft or wall insulation services."
He warned: "During these tough economic times it is likely more of these types of scams will appear so it is important residents are on their guard and stop and think before agreeing to anything."
Councillor de Savage said the bogus calls had been referred to the council's trading standards department.
He appealed to members of the public targeted by such scams to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
He said: "Where possible it would be helpful for consumers to ask for the name of the person calling and also a phone number - without giving any of their personal details or agreeing to a visit of course - as this will help trading standards in their investigation."
While trading standards carry out their investigations people with concerns can get advice by contacting the team or calling Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.

POLICE AND PARTNERS WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE A SUPPORT SERVICE TO VICTIMS OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
Northamptonshire Police, Victim Support and Northamptonshire County Council are working together to provide free and confidential support to people experiencing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Northampton, South Northants and Daventry.
The Anti-Social Behaviour Support Service has been set-up following consultation with people suffering from ASB to ensure that it is designed specifically with their needs and expectations at its heart.
The service is based on an understanding that anti-social behaviour can detrimentally affect the quality of life for many people. Referrals to the support service are made through officers when they come into contact with individuals who they feel are vulnerable or who would benefit from support.
